The artist Igor Mitoraj was born in Veteran, Germany on March 26, 1944, grew up in Poland, and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. His mentor, artist Tadeusz Kantor, advised him to study in Paris and follow his advice on registration at the National Academy of Fine Arts.
In the next few decades, the artist worked in Paris and Italy’s Pietrasanta, where he set up a studio and mined local stones for his work. Mitoraj died in Paris, France on October 6, 2014, at the age of 70. In 2016, later artists held an exhibition at the site of the ancient city of Pompeii, including the statues of his mythical figures Icarus and Daedalus.
