Story Background

Pygmalion is a sculptor in Cyprus. He is disappointed with the shortcomings of human women and believes that no woman can meet his ideal. Therefore, he decided to create a perfect female statue.

He carved a beautiful woman out of ivory and named her Galatea. The statue was so beautiful beyond imagination that Pygmalion fell deeply in love with his work.

He poured endless love into the statue and regarded her as a living partner.

Pygmalion prayed to Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty, hoping that she could give life to the statue.

Aphrodite was moved by his sincere feelings and turned the statue into a living woman.

Finally, Pygmalion and Galatea lived happily together.
