In the book entitled “Metamorphoses”, Ovid tells the myths of Apollo and Daphne. According to the story of the Latin poet, Apollo brags that he could use bows and arrows better than anyone, so it causing Cupid’s anger. When Cupid revenged, he shot him with one of his arrows, making him fall in love with the nymph Daphne.
Daphne tried to reject Apollo in various ways because she could not escape God. So she sought help from the goddess Artemis (Diana), who turned her into a laurel tree. Apollo must witness the transformation of the girl’s powerlessness. From that moment on, the laurel tree is considered to be the sacredness of God.
