This marble gazebo combines white stone and black ironwork in one structure. A ring of sculpted maidens stands on carved plinths and raises their arms to carry the capitals beneath a broad marble canopy, and a scrolled wrought iron dome with a pointed finial rises above it.
The canopy is carved with acanthus leaf panels and shallow arches between the figures, and low balustrade benches run between the plinths. The whole piece stands on a stepped marble platform, so it reads as a finished garden room rather than a single ornament.
Why Choose a Pavilion with Sculpted Figures?
A garden pavilion gives a lawn or terrace a clear center. When the supports are carved figures instead of plain columns, the structure becomes a sculpture as well as a shelter, and it draws attention from every side.
The open design keeps views through the structure, and the iron dome adds a lighter, more delicate top against the heavier marble below. The contrast suits formal European-style gardens and the stone facades of manor houses.
Sculpted Maidens Carrying the Canopy
The maidens take the place of ordinary columns, and each one stands on her own square plinth carved with floral relief. The figures at the front are larger and raise both arms overhead to hold the capital above them, while the figures behind them turn slightly, so the ring has movement when you walk around it.
Long, softly pleated robes fall to the base of each figure, and the drapery is carved with enough depth to catch shadow in daylight. The same statue column approach can be adapted to different heights and figure styles.
