This wall fountain is designed as a complete architectural feature rather than a single sculpture. A carved back wall frames a cascade of scalloped shell basins at the center, four maiden statues stand in the bays on either side, and groups of cherubs crown the top edge, all set above a low reflecting pool.
Water spills from one shell basin to the next through the center, while separate streams fall from the dolphin-head spouts at the feet of the figures. As an outdoor wall fountain with statues, it works as a focal point whether it is seen from across a courtyard or up close, and it can be built to the width and height of your wall.
Four Maiden Statues, Four Poses
Each figure is carved in a different pose, so the wall reads as a sequence of figures rather than a repeated pattern. From left to right:
1. The first maiden draws a length of drapery across her chest with one hand, the cloth falling in long folds behind her.
2. The second maiden stands with drapery wrapped around her hips and legs, gathering the cloth at her side.
3. The third maiden wears a long, fully draped gown and holds a fold of fabric against her body, with her head turned slightly to one side.
4. The fourth maiden lifts a water jar and tilts it to pour, the stream falling toward the dolphin spout at her feet.
At the foot of every figure, a carved dolphin head serves as a water spout, so water runs down each pedestal into the pool. A further figure stands at each end of the wall, closing the composition on both sides.
Carved Details Across the Wall
Between and above the statues, the wall carries a full program of relief work: shell-topped niches over each figure, mascaron faces in the upper frieze, cartouche panels with scrollwork, fan-shaped shell reliefs, rose medallions, and ribbon-tied garlands on the pedestals.
At the crown, three cherubs sit on each side of the scrolled pediments, and a cherub blowing a horn stands at the center on a shell and dolphin base. Two small putti are carved at the foot of the central column beneath the shell basins. The pool surround can be carved with matching garland and rosette relief so the base follows the same style as the wall.
