The statue, named Horse of the South, weighs two tonnes.An artist who crafted a sculpture of a Large Horse’s Head Statue in central London was so distressed at the local pigeons making a mess of his landmark he has climbed the 35ft high structure to clean it himself.
The sculptor conceived the Large Horse’s Head Statue as a scribble in protest against the city in the area.He said: “This quiet work of art is a reminder of our roots. Horses were the only means of transportation in London’s early creation.”
Referring to his choice of materials, he added: “I’ve always liked to use lead as a working material-it looks strong in the heavy sky and sparkles in the sun.
In the longer term, he hopes to create an Angel of the South to rival Antony Gormley’s Angel of the North. “When I had the horse on The Trundle, which is a powerful Iron Age site that looks out across the sea, it generated an astonishing reaction.
And since then I’ve wondered, what if I could build it three times the size? I had a discussion with Lord March, who owns the land, but it wasn’t the right time. But that’s just one place on the Downs.”
