4. Are you the actual manufacturer, or are you reselling?
A genuine manufacturer should be able to explain where your sculpture is produced, which stages are handled in-house, and how you can verify the production facility. If any part of the project is outsourced, a reliable supplier should be transparent about it. The goal is not simply to find a “factory,” but to understand who is actually responsible for making your sculpture.
This distinction matters because extra layers between you and the people making the sculpture can complicate communication, customization, and quality control.

“Can I see your production facility, either in person or by video call? Which parts of this project will be produced in-house?”
A useful factory visit — physical or virtual — should show more than a showroom. Depending on the material, you may want to see areas for clay modeling, mold making, casting, carving, welding, polishing, finishing, or packing.

5. What material grade, thickness, and quality standards will you use?
The right technical questions depend on the material, but buyers should ask for specifications rather than accepting a material name by itself. For stainless steel, this may include grade, thickness, internal structure, and finish. For bronze, it may include alloy specification, casting method, and structural reinforcement. For marble, it may include stone type, selection, and quality.
For example, “stainless steel” is not a complete specification for a large outdoor sculpture. A buyer may need to discuss whether 304 or 316 is appropriate for the installation environment, as well as sheet thickness, internal reinforcement, welding quality, and surface finish.
For bronze, the manufacturing method and construction details also matter. For large sculptures, buyers should ask how the casting and internal structure are designed for the sculpture’s size and installation requirements.

6. How will my sculpture be packaged and shipped — and who’s responsible if it’s damaged?
For a large sculpture, discuss shipping before production is finished, not after the piece is ready to leave the factory. Ask about crating, internal protection, shipping terms, insurance, customs responsibility, and whether the sculpture will ship assembled or in sections. These details can affect both cost and the practical installation of the finished work.
A large sculpture can be structurally strong but still requires safe packaging. Extended elements, polished surfaces, delicate details, and large stone components may require specific protection.

8. (If you’re ordering in volume) What’s your MOQ, and can I get a sample first?
MOQ and sampling matter most when you are ordering multiple units, such as matching sculptures for a hotel development, landscape project, retail rollout, or a series of garden pieces. For a single custom sculpture, these questions may be less relevant. The important point is to understand how the manufacturer will maintain consistency across multiple units.

9. (If your design is proprietary) How do you handle design confidentiality?

A portfolio shows what a manufacturer wants you to see. A project reference can tell you more about the type of work the manufacturer has actually completed. What a Reliable Sculpture Manufacturer Should Be Able to Show You
You do not need a supplier to have a perfect answer to every question. What matters is whether they can provide reasonable evidence, explain their process clearly, and put important commercial terms in writing. Before placing an order, look for a verifiable factory, material information, production checkpoints, written terms, and relevant project experience.
